How Dental Practices Can WIN December Instead of Surviving It

December can feel like the ultimate scramble. Patients rushing to use insurance, team members juggling time off, and a push to hit year-end goals.

But the most successful dental practices don’t just get through December. They leverage it, to finish strong, increase treatment acceptance, and prepare the schedule so January doesn’t start at zero.

Here’s how to turn Q4 chaos into smart, strategic action.

1. Make December About Finishing Strong AND Starting Strong

Most practices focus exclusively on one of two things:

  • Maximizing year-end production, or
  • Planning for the new year

But the real opportunity is in doing both at once.

December is your pivot point, a chance to:

  • Capture remaining treatment before benefits expire
  • Re-engage inactive patients
  • Incentivize January appointments
  • Start 2026 with momentum already in motion

2. Lead With Time-Sensitive Messaging (It Works)

Patients procrastinate, but December gives you a natural motivator:

The 12/31 Insurance Deadline

Use it everywhere:

  • Email subject lines
  • Text reminders
  • Social posts
  • Front desk scripts

The urgency is built in, all you have to do is highlight it.

3. Position Whitening & Giftable Services Strategically

December is a gift-giving month. And whitening isn’t just cosmetic, it’s desirable. It’s also:

  • Easy to offer
  • Easy to package
  • A great reactivation tool
  • A cash-pay boost to production

Offer:

  • Whitening gift cards
  • “Stocking stuffer smile kits”

4. Preload January NOW (Don’t Wait Weeks)

January is unpredictable for many practices, but it doesn’t have to be.

Build January this month by:

  • Rebooking December patients before they leave
  • Offering small seasonal perks (like $50 off whitening or a free take-home kit)
  • Pre-appointing overdue patients for the new year

Your goal: Start Q1 already 70–80% booked with productive days, not just busy days!

That turns January from a “catch-up month” into a growth month.

5. Keep Your Team Focused (Without Burning Them Out)

December is a marathon, not a sprint. Support your team with:

  • Clear daily goals
  • Morning huddles with purpose
  • Bonus incentives tied to rebooking & production
  • A culture of energy, not exhaustion

6. Measure What Actually Matters This Month

Track:

  • Unscheduled treatment presented vs. accepted
  • Patients seen vs. patients rebooked
