Each state has different requirements for dental assistants, here are the levels, and functions permitted for dental assistants in Utah.
Levels of Dental Assistants in Utah
There is only one level of dental assistants in UT:
1. Dental Assistant
A dental assistant in the state of UT may perform basic supportive dental procedures under the supervision of a licensed dentist. All dental assistants must have current CPR or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Utah Radiography Requirements
To legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiographic procedures in UT, a dental assistant must meet the following requirements:
- Complete a dental assisting course from a CODA-accredited program, OR
- Pass the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam, OR
- Complete a radiology course and exam approved by the Utah Dentist and Dental Hygienist Licensing Board that meet the criteria established by the rule of the Board.
